The cottage

Made for slow weekends.

One big open room where everyone ends up, four bedrooms to retreat to, two full baths, and the lake right outside the sliders. Everything you need for the stay is already here.

The kitchen

Large, open, and built for gathering. Cook your favourite meals together, pull up a chair at the long table, and let a board game run late. Fully equipped, with a dishwasher and a propane barbecue outside.

The great room

Ceiling fans turning under the peak, a fireplace for the cool nights, and sliders straight out to the deck and the lake. The room everyone drifts back to.

Four bedrooms

Two on the main floor: a queen and a double. Two downstairs: a king, and a bunk room built for adults as much as kids, with a queen below and a twin XL above on each side.

Open stairs down to the lower level. Hooks and benches in every room, so your things always have somewhere to hang. Out back, a second fire pit with Muskoka chairs and a covered barbecue.

Your own lakefront, a few steps across a quiet lane.

A dock, a lakeside sitting area, and a fire pit right at the water. Two kayaks, two paddleboards, floaties, and life jackets in most sizes are yours to use. Maple Lake is big, clean, and swimmable, with great fishing.

Getting here

Paved the whole way.

About two and a half hours from Toronto, on highway the entire drive. No dirt roads, no confusing turns. Groceries, the LCBO, and gas are ten to fifteen minutes away. Minden and Haliburton village are a short drive for restaurants, shops, and trails.

We spent our days by the lake, enjoying the beautiful surroundings, and our evenings cooking together, sharing meals, and relaxing in the incredibly comfortable space. We had such a wonderful stay here with our two young kids, both under 5, and honestly could not have asked for a better family getaway. One of the things we appreciated most was how safe and family-friendly the space felt. With little ones, that makes such a difference when you’re trying to actually relax and enjoy your time away.

The large front and backyard were amazing for the kids. They had so much room to run around, play and burn off energy, and we spent most of our time outside enjoying the property and the beautiful surroundings.

We also loved that the cottage was so thoughtfully equipped for families with young children. Having a high chair, playpen and mattress, booster seat, and a great variety of toys already there meant we didn’t have to pack nearly as much. The kids especially loved having all the toys to play with throughout our stay!

The water was another huge highlight. It was so clean and shallow, which gave us so much peace of mind with the kids around the dock and while they were swimming. We could enjoy the water as a family without constantly feeling worried about the little ones.

Overall, this was truly a beautiful place to spend quality time together as a family. It had everything we needed to feel comfortable, relaxed and at home while still feeling like a special getaway. We would absolutely love to come back!

Good to know

The questions everyone asks.

Travelling with young kids?

We have you covered. It is a quiet, family-friendly place, with a bunk room the kids will claim, a dock to jump off, floaties and life jackets in most sizes, and a cupboard of board games and puzzles for rainy afternoons. For the little ones, mention it when you book and we will have a high chair, a booster seat, and a playpen with a mattress ready for you (bring your own playpen bedding), along with kids’ plates and cutlery. There is a toy area to keep them entertained, too.

How do summer bookings work?

Summer runs by the week, Saturday to Saturday, from the end of June through the Labour Day week. July and August weeks are $4,200. Late June and the Labour Day week are $4,000. The rest of the year has a two-night minimum, and three nights or more gets the better rate.

Is there WiFi and cell service?

Yes to both. WiFi and streaming TV inside, and cell service is good on most carriers.

Is it heated? Is there air conditioning?

Heated for year-round comfort. No air conditioning. The basement stays naturally cool in summer and there are fans throughout.

Can we bring our dog?

No. We have a strict no-pet policy, and no animals of any kind are permitted. Thank you for understanding.

What is included?

A fully equipped kitchen with all the standard appliances, a dishwasher, a propane barbecue, streaming TV, WiFi, board games, kayaks, paddleboards, floaties, and life jackets. Pillows and comforters are on every bed, with hand towels and dish towels in the kitchen and baths.

Do we bring our own linens?

Yes, bring your own sheets, pillowcases, and bath and lake towels. Pillows and comforters are on every bed, and we supply hand towels and dish towels. If you would rather not pack linens, we can supply them for an added cost. Just mention it when you book.

What are check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is 4 pm. Check-out is 10 am.

Is the water safe to swim in?

Yes. It is clean and swimmable. The bottom is clay and rock and can be slippery, so bring water shoes.

Can we bring a boat?

Yes. Maple Lake is suited to motorboats and there is a public boat launch nearby. Ask us for directions when you book.

Is there parking?

Plenty, along our long driveway.

What about the deposit and cancellations?

A 50% deposit is collected when you book to secure your stay, and the balance is invoiced on your check-in date. Cancel 14 or more days before arrival for a full refund. Inside 14 days, the 50% deposit is kept. There is also a $500 refundable damage deposit, returned in full after your stay if there are no damages.

Are you open in winter?

Yes, year-round. The cottage is heated and the road is plowed in winter.
